Default Bird & Beans

Pyoro was a "gimmie" unlockable in the original Wario Ware Game Boy Advance game, an awesome throwback to the simpler days of arcade gaming. Nintendo's taken the design and turned it into Bird & Beans, an inexpensive impulse buy download for the Nintendo DSi launch. This two-pack of games is more a demonstration of the pick-up-and-play nature of the DSi software than it is the system capabilities, and even though we've already played this more than a half decade ago it's nice to have it in a form that we can boot up quickly.

The game itself is extremely simple but has enough challenge to make it addictive. You control Pyoro on the bottom screen and use his lashing tongue to lap up the falling beans. His tongue licks out at a 45 degree angle but can span the entire width of the screen from where he stands, so it takes good timing and distance judging to snag the beans as they descend from the top. The sooner you gulp up the bean, the more points you earn, but if the bean hits the floor that piece will disappear, limiting the character's movement. An unlockable second mode opens up after defeating the set high-score, this one challenging players to use the bird's seed-spitting ability to destroy the falling beans.
Bird & Beans starts out simple but gets brutally hard in its quickly ramping difficulty level. The two games have their own high scores saved to the system, but it doesn't save a local leaderboard: just one high score for Bird & Beans and one for Bird & Beans 2.
