Eye strain is a lot to do with the focus at the same distance for long periods to focus on something far away, this will help keep your eyes strain too much, and, above all, try to blink more often. It 'been shown that most people blink less than half of what is usually when they have a computer.

Besides brightness, your second concern about the high contrast of colors around you. This includes what you see on your computer screen and everything in your immediate environment such as walls and furniture. Your eyes have trouble seeing the two contrasting colors and the colors dull. So if you can find the opportunity to paint your walls, choose bright colors and pastels to create a calmer atmosphere.

I think Eye strain has a lot to do with focusing at the same distance for long periods of time so focus on something far away, this will help keep your eyes from straining too much and most importantly try to blink more often. Its been proven that most people blink less than half as much as they do normally when they are on the computer.
