Sweden’s New Anti-Piracy Law

Sweden is drafting a new law that would make it easier to go after individuals who share copyrighted files on filesharing networks such as BitTorrent. The law could go into effect in April 2009. However, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out there will be some opposing.

The law the will make it easier for copyright holders to get a court order in order to force ISPs to release the customer info linked to a suspect IP-address. They cannot take someone to court without “proof” which basically means the IP address sharing the files. The big problem though is the unsecured wireless Internet. People can share and use the same I address with or without the true owners consent/knowledge. Also, ThePirateBay is know using tracker software that inserts several random IP addresses that are not actually downloading data. This makes it harder to track the actual IP addresses downloading the data.

I hope that the opposition will do their best to stop this law. Good luck Sweden!
