Sprint announces new 4G (WiMAX) markets and devices

Sprint’s high-speed 4G, WiMAX-based network (currently functional only in Baltimore) will be expanded this year in many new US markets, the mobile operator said today.

By the end of 2009, the following cities will be able to benefit from Sprint’s 4G services: Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Fort Worth, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Portland and Seattle.
Furthermore, in 2010, the third largest North American carrier plans to roll out 4G services in Boston, Houston, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

Also, Sprint announced that it’s getting ready to launch new 4G devices, all planned for this year and 2010. Said devices will include: a single-mode 4G data card, a small-office-home-office broadband modem, embedded laptops and a so-called “tri-mode phone”.
