Default Treatment of Sebaceous Hyperplasia

Sebaceous hyperplasia is a skin disorder, wherein an individual develops small yellowish pimple-like growth on the skin, normally on the face. These growths are also known as Fordyce's spots. People who are in their middle ages and elderly people normally experience this disorder which affects around 1% of the total population in the US.
Approximately 10-16% of people who are on a semipermanent use of 'cyclosporin A' for organ transplantations, are affected by sebaceous hyperplasia. There are few cases, where lesions are formed during pubescence, and they may be single or in a group. They are formed in areas where several oil secretors are present, like the nose, cheeks, forehead, chest, upper arms, vulval region, and around the teats. They are tiny, pain-free, whitish yellow colored bumps on the skin surface.

Oleaginous glands are highly sensitive to androgenic hormones, even though the number of these glands don't change much, throughout a person's lifetime, their functions and size differ depending on the age and circulating internal secretion levels. This disorder has many symptoms such as hickeys on the skin, especially on the forehead and cheeks, a 'seborrhoeic' skin infection, or
acne.

People may choose treatments of sebaceous hyperplasia depending on the symptoms. Applying 'tretinoin' cream or gel on the affected area, is a simple method for treating the disorder, which would make the pimples disappear over time, and will also preclude further complications. Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) chemical peels, can also be used to treat the disorder, but new hickeys will keep forming initially after the treatment.

If the pimples are severe, blemishing, or cover a considerably larger area on the skin, oral isotretinoin medicaments can be very useful in treating the complication. This medication has proven to show its effects in around 2-6 weeks of treatment. 'Isotretinoin' has the capability to temporarily decrease the size of oleaginous glands. However, its use for this purpose should only be recommended by a dermatologist, as a part of the oral retinoid therapy. In case of a women, androgen antagonists would surely serve the purpose.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) or photoradiation therapy, is one of the effective treatments, wherein the effected area is exactly targeted. This procedure doesn't have any long-term fallouts if used in a correct manner, and also allows one to have a clear skin free from
scars, after the treatment. Light cauterization is another efficient way of getting rid of lesions.

Diathermy, which is a method of physical therapy that includes producing local heat in body tissues by high-frequency electromagnetic currents, is also opted by people to remove skin lesions. Skin hickeys can be removed by another treatment known as 'laser vaporization', however, this procedure is expensive and very advanced. Some skin specialists may recommend a minor surgical operation, or the liquid nitrogen freezing procedure for bringing the skin condition back to normal.

Before applying any kind of creams and gels, or undergoing any type of treatment, it is strongly recommended to consult a skin doctor, for appropriate steps to treat sebaceous hyperplasia and to avoid serious skin complications.

There may be slight advantage of microdermabrasion, but generally electrosurgery your dermatologist or plastic surgeon for best results. Any time of year is fine as long as you wear sunscreen during the healing process. Having said that, over time / with age, you will collect new and facial sebaceous hyperplasia treatments per year will be needed for maintenance.

People can opt for sebaceous hyperplasia treatments according to symptoms. The application of the cream tretinoin "or gel to the affected area, is a simple method for the treatment of the disease, which would make pimples disappear with time, and also opposed to other complications. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peels chemical can also be used to treat the disorder, but new sprouts will keep the initial post-treatment. If the grains are serious, stain, or cover a much larger area on the skin, the oral drug isotretinoin can be very useful in treatment of the complication. This drug has been shown to show its effects in about 2-6 weeks of treatment. "Isotretinoin" has the ability to temporarily reduce the size of oil glands. However, its use for this purpose should only be recommended by a dermatologist, as part of therapy with oral retinoids. In case of a woman, androgen antagonists certainly serve the purpose.

Default Sebaceous Hyperplasia Treatment

Sebaceous Hyperplasia is a skin disease that affects the patients face. The patient will start to notice small growths. These growths will usually be yellow. It is important to understand that this condition is not dangerous to the patient and will not seriously endanger them. This skin disease shows that the patient has an overgrowth of some of the glands on their face. As described before it isn’t dangerous but it can be embarrassing for the patient as they will suffer a big confidence knock and will not want to go outside as much as they usually would. But there is treatment available for this skin disease and the patient should see their doctor straight away.
Vulnerable Age Groups

There is an age group that does seem to be more vulnerable to Sebaceous Hyperplasia then any other age group. The most vulnerable age group seems to be men in their middle ages or slightly older ages. You can be pretty confident that no one who is young will contract this skin disease because it will not come into effect until they are older. So older men that have a history of this skin disease in their families should be aware of this skin disease cropping up at any time and if it does crop up then you should go to your doctor to get some medication for the growths, if you feel that you need the medication.
Causes of Sebaceous Hyperplasia

Whatever causes Sebaceous Hyperplasia is unknown but it can tend to run in families that have a history of contracting Sebaceous Hyperplasia. However there is some relief from patients as they will find out from their doctor that this skin disorder is not contagious. It will be a welcome relief to hear that from their doctor. But the patient will mainly just want to know how to get rid of this skin disease. Of course seeing as though it does appear to run in the family maybe the patients parents would have told them all about what might happen if they get this skin disease.
Available Treatment for Sebaceous Hyperplasia

There is treatment available for Sebaceous Hyperplasia although many people believe that there is no need for treatment as the problem will go away on its own. But a lot of people who contract this skin disease do not want to wait for the problem to go away and instead they will insist on receiving treatment from their doctor. The doctor will be able to prescribe some cream or gel to help with the skin disease. This cream or gel will be called tretinoin and you will have to use it daily on the problem areas. This cream will be able to help the problem from getting worse but it does eliminate the skin condition slowly so you will have to make sure that you do use it every day. You can also use a rather powerful drug that is called Accutane. But once you stop using it then the skin disease might come back. So you will have to keep using this drug regularly to make sure that you will not contract Sebaceous Hyperplasia again.
Prognosis

If you do contract Sebaceous Hyperplasia then you will not have to worry about anything except recovery. This skin disease will not cause you any future problems and everyone who gets this skin disease will always make a full 100% recovery. So it is widely known by doctors all over the world that Sebaceous Hyperplasia is benign. This is of course a small relief to the patient but they would have known that already. Most people that have a skin disease that runs through their family will do a check on it so they can be prepared. Also they will know what to expect and what to do if they do contract this skin disease from their parents.
Summary of Sebaceous Hyperplasia

Sebaceous Hyperplasia is known to cause some embarrassment to the people that do contract it. They do not like to be seen in public some of the time and they would rather wish that the medication that they receive would just start to take immediate effect. But some people will still do what they used to do and they will not let this affect their day to day lives.

Oral isotretinoin are also effective in eliminating some of the lesions after 2-6 weeks of treatment.
Accutane is a powerful medication and is very effective in treating this disease.
